Being creative and sharing with others are things that spark JudyQ’s engine. From the youngest age as a child and throughout her entire professional career she has prided herself on her ever reaching desire to expand her knowledge base in the areas of her most passionate of interests.
She has focused her life along a path that evolved from cloth doll making, dress making, costuming, home décor and customized specialty wear (bridal, ski wear and outerwear). Her plan to be home for her two daughters during their younger years included contract sewing for individual clients as well as making coronation gowns for the Portland Rose Festival Princesses and Queens.
Her venture into quilt making was a natural progression, and she began managing the Quilt Department at Daisy Kingdom, spending her days planning quilt projects, ordering fabrics, and building a community of quilting customers.
With the fabric industry at her fingertips, she was able to learn and understand every process of fabric creation…from importing of greige goods, fabric design creation, to engraving and printing of the goods directly from the presses.
Teaching quilt-making techniques rose to the top of her passions along with sharing this with her customers and friends. Her happy place is definitely in sharing her love of the quilting arts especially through developing creative classes to draw in other quilters.
Her desire to perfect the look and techniques of Judy Niemeyer and Quiltworx designs lead her on the journey of learning and being trained by Judy herself and her qualified Certified Instructors.
Also having opportunity to be involved from President to Programs with local Guilds has rounded out the experience that she wishes to share with you and others.

It was the late ’70’s when I first took a quilting class. I made two king sampler quilts entirely pieced and quilted by hand. Back then, very little machine quilting was done so for years, doing everything by hand was my method of choice. Even though I machine sewed other things extensively for 40 years, I did all my quilting by hand.
It was 2017 when I joined a sewing group where I saw someone working on a Judy Niemeyer quilt. A week later, I was signed up for a class and two months later, I had created my very first Judy Quilt (Glacier Star). I was hooked!
Due to my work schedule, I had a difficult time attending classes on a regular basis. With only an occasional class here and there, I became skilled at “seeing” the quilt before creation, not at first knowing about that wonderful tool, Quiltster. The logic, the simplicity, the exactness of Judy’s process just clicked with me, and made perfect sense. My “ah-ha” moment came quickly. Thirty-two quilt projects later, 16 more kitted, three Quiltworx University retreats and three trips to the training center in Montana later to learn the “right” way to teach Judy’s process, I am ready to share what I know.
I love going to retreats and without fail, when I bring out a Judy project, it peaks interest. I love watching how someone goes from “I could never do that” when they first see the pattern, to studying the progress I make as time passes and saying by the end of the week, “I think I really COULD do that!”. My goal as an instructor is to have you find success, to give you the skills necessary to create and finish one of your own.
I can (and will!) travel anywhere to bring you the gift of knowledge in how to create any one of these amazing Judy Niemeyer quilt patterns. That includes how to navigate Quiltster, create one-of-a-kind mixer quilts, mastering the art of color and contrast while executing her unique design techniques. I promise to stick with you every step of the way! Take the first step….you will be amazed at what you CAN do! Look me up!

Tammy began quilt making in 1989 as a way to continue her great-grandmother’s legacy. She has always been a lover of puzzles and math so quilt making was a perfect fit for her.
Around 2008 Tammy discovered Judy Niemeyer’s patterns, her first pattern to experience was Which Way’s North. By the time she made her second Quiltworx quilt, Feathered Goose, she realized she loved the process, organization, and accuracy the patterns provide so much that they quickly became her favorites.
She has continued to make Judy’s patterns, has won many ribbons for her work, and has an extensive collection of patterns awaiting her attention.
Tammy’s degree in Education from Purdue University has helped to provide her with the knowledge and methods necessary to be an effective, confident, and patient quilt instructor, able to teach all skill levels from beginner to advanced.
Tammy began doing demos and presentations for her quilt guilds and sewing group around 20 years ago. She has taught quilt sampler classes and paper piecing classes at local quilt shops and has been leading a monthly paper-piecing club since early in 2014.
While she has taught patterns from several paper-piecing pattern designers in her club, her focus has primarily been on Quiltworx patterns. Her students and club members have successfully completed many paper-pieced projects over the years.
Tammy is willing to teach one day, multi-day, and monthly classes, in order to provide you with all types of instruction, demos, trunk shows or retreats. She is also willing to travel; cruises and long-distance retreats are not outside the realm of possibility. She is looking forward to working with you so you can have a successful class or event.
