I’ve been an educator for more than 30 years. Schoolteacher, parent educator, an advocate for infants/children with special-needs, a court appointed special advocate, a computer software trainer and consultant, but my passion is quilt-making.
I love working with colors, the fabrics, the geometry, the variety of techniques, the problem solving. And I even love the math!! I love seeing hundreds of pieces of fabric come together creating a work of art! From 2 color nine-patch quilts to a beautiful Quiltworx heirloom quilt, each is beautiful and a pleasure to make.
Little did I know when I started quilting nearly 20 years ago that I would find a special niche that would let me put all of these experiences together. In recent years I’ve been a program director, an organizer for several quilt shows, and even president of our quilt guild. I have also done many quilt related presentations and taught a variety of quilting classes on a wide variety of topics — both technique focused and project focused. From understanding color to multiple applique techniques to best practices in quilt making and especially foundation paper piecing I love sharing the things I have learned that take a lot of the difficulty out of piecing a quilt.
Now I’ve come full circle, I’ve learned that I have a knack for using my teaching and organization skills to help others learn how to quilt and expand their quilt making skills repertoire. I would love the opportunity to visit with you and your friends or your quilt guild and share not only the things I’ve learned, but also some of my quilts. Kathy has made nearly 40 Quiltworx quilts and is eager to create some of Judy’s newest patterns… especially the Mixers! And with her background in computer training, let her teach you how with Quiltster you can design your own Quiltworx Heirloom quilt. What are you waiting for?
Kathy is an Ohio native but has lived in Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Michigan before moving to her current home in Texas. She has a son in Tuscon, Arizona, a son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter!!!! in Ontario, Canada. Kathy’s youngest son has special needs and lives at home with her and her husband, a University administrator.
You can follow Kathy on Facebook at BobKat Quilts or on her website www.bobkatquilts.com. To contact Kathy about scheduling a class, lecture, trunk show or workshop/retreat, email her at kathy@bobkatquilts.com or call her at (810) 337-8458.
