The Starry Night was designed as a paper-pieced exploding star with inset corners, consisting of a smaller series of stars. The project takes advantage of the Quiltworx strip piecing process for creating lone star blocks. It is a pattern for beginners, intermediate, and advanced quilters and has been designed with floating points, efficient yardage, and simple assembly steps.

This pattern is also a Quiltworx Collector’s Club design. Collector’s Club patterns are designed to promote a Quiltworx Mini Collection. These fabric collections are Tonga Batik collections manufactured by Timeless Treasures and include (8) fabrics ranging from light to dark, in a coordinating color group. The Mini Collection used for Starry Nights is called Heather. A few blender fabrics from the Java Blenders collection have been incorporated into the quilt to create contrast where appropriate. Only 500 patterns are available and when these patterns are gone, they will be discontinued! Because there is a limited number of these patterns, replacement papers for this pattern are not available. To make a second sample, you will need to purchase a second pattern.

If you would like to try this pattern in a different colorway, it is available in Quiltster under the Broken Star Mixer Wall Quilt. There, you can try the pattern out with different Mini Collections, your favorite fabric collection, or just move the existing fabrics around. You can also try out some different mixer blocks in the 10” inset square and alternate expansion packages for a queen if you like!

There are many ways to expand your Quiltworx designs into larger sizes with compatible border packages by clicking the Buy Now button.  If listed, you should purchase the Introduction Booklet for the size quilt you want.  Then, you should select expansion borders of your choice.  The following information explains ways to expand your quilt.
  • To expand the 68″ to a 99″ Queen, purchase one of the 242D borders listed under the Buy Now button.
  • To expand the 68″ to an 80″ Wall Quilt, add a 281D border of your choice listed under the Buy Now button.
  • To expand this to a 118″ King, add a 281D border, then add a 277H 118″ King Border of your choice listed under the Buy Now button.

Once you’ve finished this quilt, we recommend checking out Quiltster to see a variety of other diamond blocks that could be used to create this design. You can also use Quiltster to play with blocks and fabrics in your border expansions, and will give you yardage and an image of your design.
