Pre-class cutting and Supply List

Pre-cutting the fabrics is a mandatory requirement prior to taking this course. Please begin preparing for class at least 1-WEEK prior to the class to make sure that you are able to get familiar with your pattern and complete the pre-cutting before hand. We always recommend reading through your entire pattern before beginning.

Corrections: Be sure to check the website for corrections before beginning any of the instructions below. Corrections are available at http://www.quiltworx.com/corrections/Bali%20Fever.

Fabric Selection: This quilt was made using four packages of Bali Pops, and 8 additional cuts of fabric for your S-units. Any pre-cut package of 2 1/2″ strips such as Bali-pops, Jelly Rolls, etc. will work, or you can choose your own fabrics! If you choose to use your own yardage you will need to cut 160 2-1/2″ x 42″ strips in a variety of light, medium and dark fabrics. Bali Pops are not used for the S-Units. Refer to the yardage chart on the back of your pattern for the required fabric amounts for these units.

Prepare the Template Layout Sheets: Please refer to the Templates, and Template Layout Sheets on page 2 of your pattern. Make sure your templates are placed in the bags noted on the Bag Chart on page 2.

Prepare the Foundation Papers: Please refer to the Foundation Papers, Templates and Template Layout Sheets on page 2 of your pattern. Place the foundation papers in the bags noted on the Bag Chart on page 2.

Cutting Instructions: If you are using your own fabric instead of prepackaged strips make sure that you have your (160) 2 1/2″ x 42″ strips cut before class. You do not need to do anything else with these strips before class. I will go over arranging your fabrics into strip sets in class!

 Unit-S, Background Bag #2: Follow the instructions under ‘Cutting Instructions for Unit-S, Background Bag #2’ on page 4 of your pattern. If you are unfamiliar with Judy’s cutting techniques and are not comfortable cutting the Template Layout Sheet apart, you can wait to do this part after Jackie has completed the demo in class. Using a binder or large paper clip, clip your fabrics and place in bag #2. If you would like to only cut out enough fabric to complete
one unit during class, feel free. This will give you the opportunity to see how your strip units come together before committing yourself to these fabrics for your S- units.

 Unit-S, Spikes Bag #2: Follow the instructions under ‘Cutting Instructionsfor Unit-S, Spikes Bag #2’ on page 4 of your pattern. Clip your fabrics and place in bag #2. If you would like to only cut out enough fabric to complete one unit during class, feel free. This will give you the opportunity to see how your stripunits come together before committing yourself to these fabrics for your S-units.
