Pre-cutting the fabrics is a mandatory requirement prior to taking this course. Please begin preparing for class at least 3-WEEKS prior to the class to make sure that you are able to get familiar with your pattern and complete the pre-cutting before hand. It is important that you have your pre-class cutting completed. If this step is not completed, you will have a very difficult time keeping up and participating in the instruction. We recommend reading through your entire pattern before beginning.

Fabric Selection:  You can use one Bali Pops package plus a few additional 2½” strips or you can purchase yardage if you would like to mix and match your own fabrics. (You need a total of 48 different 2½” strips divided into 6 colorways arranged from light to medium to dark).  If you do not wish to use 4 different background fabrics, be sure to purchase enough yardage to cut (8) 10: x 42″ strips.  Please refer to the yardage chart on the back of your pattern for more information.

Preparing the Template sheets:  Please refer to “Template Layout Sheets” on page 2 of your pattern.

Preparing the Foundation Papers:  Please refer to “Prepare the Foundation Papers” on page 2 of your pattern.  Please have (7) each of Unit A and Unit B cut out.  Please have (8) each of Unit CDS, Unit CMS, and Unit M cut out.

Cutting Instructions:  Read through “General Cutting instructions” on page 2 and 3 of your pattern before beginning.

Chapter One:  Please have all of your 2 ½ inch strips cut.  You will need 48 strips.  If you are using Bali Pops, each package contains 40 strips, so you will need to cut additional strips that coordinate with your package of Bali Pops.  To make the color runs pleasing, you may need more than 8 additional strips as some strips in the Bali Pop package may not work for you “colorwise.”

Chapter Two: Read through Chapter Two cutting instructions on pages 6 – 8 of your pattern.

Complete steps 1 – 4 under “Cutting Instructions for the Background Fabrics:  Bag #3 and #4” on pages 6 and 7 of your pattern.  Clip pieces together using large paper or binder clips and place in the bags specified in step #4.

Complete steps 1 and 2 under “Unit CDS Background, Template Layout Sheet:  Group 1: Bags #3 and #5” on page 7 of your pattern.  Clip pieces together using large paper or binder clips and place in the bags specified in step #6.  Do not subcut the Template sheets as these will be demonstrated in class!

Complete steps 1 and 2 under “CMS Background, Template Layout Sheet: Group 2: Bags #4 and #5” on page 7 of your pattern.  Clip pieces together using large paper of binder clips and place in the bag specified in step #6.  Also follow the “Additional Melon Pieces cutting instruction following Step #6.  Do not subcut the Template sheets as these will be demonstrated in class!

Follow the cutting instructions under “Cutting Fabrics for the Dark Star Points” on pages 7 and 8 of your pattern. Clip pieces together using large paper or binder clips and place in the bags specified.  Do not subcut the Template sheets as these will be demonstrated in class!

Follow the cutting instructions under “Cutting Fabrics for the Medium Star Points” on page 8 of your pattern. Clip pieces together using large paper or binder clips and place in the bags specified.  Do not subcut the Template sheets as these will be demonstrated in class!
