We’ve been super busy updating patterns with new techniques and creating samples with our newest fabric lines designed by Judy and Judel Niemeyer with Timeless Treasures.

The following patterns are now available for purchase on our website, and the fabric lines are available in a quilt shop near you!

Dragon Star

Made from a collection of batiks designed by Flaurie & Finch with RJR called Blossom Batiks, this Dragon Star is eye-catching!  Back by popular demand, we’ve updated the pattern modernizing the papers, templates and instructions, making this pattern come together even more easily!

Dreamcatcher

This pattern is the first pattern to be published in a series of quilts called the Willow Tree Skirt Mixers. Dreamcatcher was created in 2016 as a Tree Skirt or Table Topper incorporating foundation paper piecing with four simple Group Elements.  The color concept was derived using three fabrics from two different Batik collection designed by Judy and Judel Niemeyer, with Timeless Treasures, called Peacock & Copper. The pattern incorporates all of the latest techniques from Quiltworx and is assembled in a straightforward approach, breaking a kaleidoscope into a four block layout.

Raindrops

Bradley and Judy Niemeyer designed the first layout and foundation pieces for Raindrops in 2005. The pattern sold out about a year ago and has been off the market for a while pending updates to bring it up to current Quiltworx design standards. We are thrilled to release Raindrops once again with a new layout for our cover quilt using a mix of several fabric collections designed by Judel and Judy Niemeyer with Timeless Treasures.

Red River Star

The Red River Star is the queen-sized version of our Tarnished Windmill measuring 99″ x 99″. The lone star was designed using 3” strips for the strip piecing, and also incorporates a series of windmill blocks.   The general assembly process was designed with no Y-Seams.  It is also an incredibly efficient quilt for 99” x 99”, using just under 19 yards of fabric.  A digitized Quilting Design is available.

New Quiltworx.com Fabric Collections Shipping in December!

The Forever collection features 30 cotton prints including six white, six red, four red & white, four black, four grey, four black & white, and two striped fabrics. Naming this collection was such a challenge.  In the end, we selected: Forever.  Red & white (and black & white) are classic color palettes that will be sought after Forever.  Quite simply put, your quilts, made in this collection, will carry that elegance, grace, and whimsy that will leave them loved, Forever.  We are thankful to Timeless Treasures for the once in a lifetime opportunity to see Judy’s quilts fabulously redesigned in red and white.

The Rosé collection includes 20 Tonga Batiks from Timeless Treasures, designed by Judy and Judel Niemeyer in red, black, antique beige and white.  Many of the designs incorporate elements of some of Judy’s most popular designs such as Diamond Wedding Ring, the Wedding Star, the Tea Time Placemat leaves, the Feathered Snowflake, and even an adaptation of the hummingbird print that was included in Judy and Judel Niemeyer’s Wildflowers fabric collection, released in the Fall of 2015.  The collection name, Rosé, was inspired by the wonderful wine, which embodies the best of a fabulous red and fabulous white.

Each Room will have (4) Pressing and at least (2) Cutting Stations.  Madeline Island has done a great job assuring that power requirements are available for the machines and ironing stations, along with everything that is needed to keep us all *on the grid*.  You will be sharing the pressing and cutting stations with 32 students.  Much of the cutting you will be doing can be done at your own station and there is enough space on each 4 foot table for your machine and a cutting space.  There is also some available wattage for you to have lights and irons at your space.  But, PLEASE adhere to the following guidelines below.

OPTIONAL:  You are also able to bring a small iron (less than 40 Watts, please.  Anything greater will not be allowed), to press seams while at your seat. 

Some options might be:

The Petite Press Portable Mini Iron ~ 10 Watts
Original Mini Iron by Clover ~20 Watts
Clover Wedge Iron (Shared by Two People) ~ 80 Watts…if you share with a friend, we will allow this one!

In addition, some students like extra light.  LED Lighting Kits for Sewing Machines are allowable, but please do not bring magnifying glass combos.  Some of those shown below might give you an idea of options that seem to work well in Retreats at Quiltworx.  Since we will be providing machines however, please do not bring one that needs to permanently attach to your machine unless you plan on taking it home with you!

Program Schedule

• 10:00 a.m.  Check In.  Get situated in your cabin.
• 6:00 p.m.  Welcome Banquet 
• 7:30 p.m.  Set up in the sewing studio, meet your Instructor and receive a basic machine demo.

• 7:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.: Breakfast
• 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.:  Morning Workshop
• 11:30 a.m.to 1:00 p.m.: Lunch
• 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.:  Afternoon Workshop
• 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.:  Afternoon Break
• 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.:  Afternoon Program
  • 1/3 of the group will attend a Quiltster demonstration above the dining hall
  • 1/3 of the group will attend a demonstration session on your most sought after techniques by Judy
  • 1/3 of the group will attend a trunk show with the Certified Instructors.  Do you have your own Judy Quilt you want to show off?  Bring it!  We’ll showcase the quilts throughout the week!
  • The afternoon programs will rotate during the first three days so everyone gets to see each of the programs.  
  • On Thursday, there will be free sew and time to shop with your Certified Shop after 4:00 p.m. The Certified Shop will be available throughout the week for supplies, quilt kits, fabric, and anything else you may need to satisfy your quilting desires!   
  • On Friday, class will end at 4:00 p.m.  Students can check out early and head home, stay and sew for the evening, or attend an Open House at the local Quilt Shop in Bayfield, WI, called Orchard’s Edge Quilt Shop.  Stop by the shop for a wine and snack event!  Orchard’s Edge Quilt Shop will be featuring Quilts from the Geese Migrations book, along with Charm Elements and Cut Loose Press patterns designed by Quiltworx!  Purchase the book at the shop and get a copy of Ripples or Canadiana patterns from the book for free!  If you already have the book, get 25% off your favorite book pattern that you do not already own!  Also, see the NEWEST publication from Quiltworx, called Dragon Star!  Orchard’s Edge will be announcing a special Dragon Star class in the Spring of 2017, so be sure to sign up if you are interested and purchase your pattern! The shop always makes sure to treat the quilters from Madeline Island well, showcasing extra deals and promotions on products throughout the week and especially during the Open House!  Take the ferry over and eat in Bayfield, then head back to your lodging on the Island in the evening.  Or, head on your way out of town!

Wrapped in Ribbon 

Wrapped in Ribbon was designed by Quiltworx.com in 2016 as an optional color and block layout for one of our most popular table runner patterns known as the Cactus Flower Table Runner.  A Tonga Batik collection called Copper by Judy and Judel Niemeyer with Timeless Treasures was the inspiration for the samples shown above.

Wedding Star Table Toppers

The Wedding Star Table Topper pattern is Judy’s original Wedding Star design downsized to a 2 ring by 2 ring layout. The small size makes this pattern a great teaching tool because it’s affordable to kit and students enjoy small projects that allow them to get their feet wet without the commitment to a large project.

Lily Pond

With the Lily Pond Hosta Queen Mixer, Quiltworx marks the launch of a series of patterns using new units designed to fit the original Fire Island Hosta Queen layout.  Using Quiltster, we designed the color layout for this quilt using a collection of batiks from our Peacock Collection designed by Judy and Judel Niemeyer with Timeless Treasures.

Lakeshore Hosta Queen Mixer

Lakeshore Hosta Queen Mixer, another mixer pattern that uses alternate units that fit the Fire Island Hosta Queen pattern layout.  This sample uses a collection of fabrics from our Peacock and Copper Collections.

Feathered Snowflake

This new take on our Feathered Snowflake features fabric selections from Elizabeth Phillips and Anne Hall using a special release collection of Christmas batiks from Island Batik.  The pattern now incorporates all of the latest techniques from Quiltworx and is assembled in a straightforward approach, creating (8) wedges of an octagon, then assembling those together.

Broken Daisy Placemats

One of Judy’s newest designs, the Broken Daisy Placemats pattern is a quick and fun paper piecing project that’s easy to do, and easy to kit.

Quantities

Quantities are limited to what is currently in stock.  We believe we will have enough to cover these designs, however, once they’re gone, these patterns will no longer be coming back!  

Osprey’s Nest Log Cabin will be replaced permanently with Osprey’s Nest at the Lake Cabin.  Captain’s Wheel will be permanently discontinued, and the Feathered Star Queen will be replaced permanently with Lumina Feathered Star.  

We will also be moving forward with many of these layouts in Quiltster, making it possible for them to become mixer designs in the future.

Unless otherwise noted, all retreats are $1,425 base price (extra nights, sewing machine rental, and master suite upgrade not included) + 7% Boarding Tax (billed at time of checkout for $600 Room fee only), and includes:

• Programs Fee: $575 per Student
  • 4 days of instruction from Judy and a Certified Instructor
  • A class limit of 12 students so you have lots of one on one time and attention
  • 1 free sew day
  • Trunk Show of current and upcoming projects (Night of check-in and before workshop starts)
  • Shopping at locally Certified Quilt Shops/and a tour of Judy’s design studio/warehouse/training center

  • You will be able to work on the project of your choosing from any Quiltworx patterns (unless otherwise noted)

As we get closer to the big event, we’ve been working diligently to organize some exciting pattern and kitting options for you to choose from in preparation for the retreat.  With that said, we need some input from you to proceed.

We’re providing three options below for you to consider.  Once you’ve had a chance to look through them all, we need you to email us with the option you’d like to choose including your choice of pattern and fabrics if applicable.  We’ll provide you with an email template at the bottom of this post, which will consist of text you can copy and paste into an email informing us of your selections.

The Project

Lakeshore Sunrise

There are three options for selecting the pattern and your fabrics.

OPTION 1:  Purchase a Lakeshore Sunrise pattern.

1. Either use your own fabrics, or
2. Purchase one of the Lakeshore Sunrise Official Samples Kits

OPTION 2: Select one of the Madeline Island Sunrise Kits, exclusive to this event!  (3 to 5 kits are estimated to be available of each, and will be considered on a first come, first served basis!)

OPTION 3:  Work with us on a completely customized quilt, where you pick the combination of blocks for your quilt and your favorite fabric collection from the list shown below!  We’ll create something truly unique to you!

Lakeshore Sunrise Pattern/Kits

Choose one of the following options:

1. Purchase the Lakeshore Sunrise pattern and use your own fabrics. Cost of the pattern is $40.50.  OR
2. Purchase the Lakeshore Sunrise pattern and order a kit from one of the Quiltworx.com Official Samples (pricing below).

You’ll receive 10% off the fabrics and pattern from Quilter’s Quest.

If you purchase a kit for Lakeshore Sunrise, we will cut and ship to you mid to late July, and you will need to complete the cutting instructions before bringing it to the workshop.

Madeline Island Sunrise Kits

PRICING:  $190 to $275 depending on color and block combination, including a $45 pattern and $15 kit preparation fee.  Final cost will be provided before cutting.  The costs below are based on estimated yardage calculations and may vary as final cutting templates are designed.

These kits are only available to attendees of this workshop!  If you select this option, we’ll cut the kit and prepare it, for the class.  We will bring the kits to the workshop for you so there is no preparation needed! 

As we work out final yardage, we will let you know the final cost of the kit that you have selected before we prepare it.*   These prices are based on a 10% discount on fabrics and pattern pieces as well!

* Substitution Note:  We anticipate we will be able to cut about 3 to 5 kits of each colorway shown here and these will be available on a first come first served basis.  If we cannot provide you the colorway requested, we will contact you and verify you want to move to the second colorway you have selected.

We will do our best to accommodate the fabrics that are shown in the samples here and in the custom packages that you have selected.  In the event that we have to substitute a fabric, we will make a judgment call on whether our substitution is close enough to work in the pattern or not.  If a suitable substitute is not available, we will also move to your second choice kit and/or call and discuss.

Lakeshore Sunrise Mixer

PRICING:  Individual pricing for each design option is listed below.  Overall, we estimate between $225 to $300, depending on fabric selection and block layout.  It includes a $45 pattern fee, a $25 design fee, and a $25 kit cutting fee.  The design fee will allow you to see your quilt and request changes once the color has been laid out.  The kit cutting fee reflects the cost for staff to prepare only one kit at a time, as opposed to cutting several at once.

Customize the Lakeshore Sunrise pattern by selecting options A, B, or C for each of the 3 Sections (Center, Ring, Border).  You may also choose fabrics from 7 new fabric collections.

You will see your quilt before we finalize it, and have the chance to make changes before it is sent for kit cutting.

When you have approved your design, we will send you the final price and this will include a 10% discount on fabrics and pattern pieces.  The kit will be prepared for you and brought to Madeline Island for you to complete!  No preparation on your end will be needed!

A Few Other Things to Remember

CAN I BUY MORE THAN ONE?

Once we have prepared all the kits for this workshop, we will be looking at the leftover fabrics and will determine how many additional kits of each colorway we can cut!  We will share this information in advance of the workshop and if you would like one, we’ll bring it with us (we will even prep it, if you want!).  We will also have some additional kits available at the workshop. 

 

USE OUR MACHINES!

Don’t forget, Quilters Quest will be supplying new Bernina’s at the workshop for you to try out and purchase at a workshop discount!  So, please keep this in mind if you are in the market for a new machine!  Staff will be onsite to train you on the machine as well!  What an opportunity!

 

SHOPPING AT MADELINE ISLAND:  

Quilters Quest will have an on-site shop with notions, kits, patterns, and more!  Find not only additional kits from what we’ve shown here, but others featuring new Quiltworx patterns and collections!  Let them know if you are in the market for any kits of current projects or others!  They’d love to bring them right to you at the event!  

As a Certified Shop, they’re prepared to kit anything, including any of the Technique of the Month patterns!  And, with delivery to your workshop you can pick Judy’s brain on questions, work on your own projects in the evening, and plan your next project right at the event with Quiltworx and Quilters Quest staff, along with our Certified Instructors and Judy!
