Karen is a country girl, who grew up on a farm in northwestern Ohio surrounded by quilters. She has her crib quilt plus many more made by her grandmother, mother and now her own.
Karen graduated with a B.S. in Ed. from Ohio Northern University and taught for ten years at the elementary level. She became a stay-at-home mom after the birth of her son. Then gradually she combined her love of quilting with teaching. That was over 25 years ago. As she was teaching in Ohio and Pennsylvania, she continued taking classes. Her favorites included Jinny Beyer for her use of color and value in design and Judy Dales for creating original contemporary curved piecing designs.
In 2005 Karen invited Judy Niemeyer to her quilt shop. Fascinated by Judy’s use of color and design plus her foundation paper piecing techniques, Karen quickly started teaching Judy Niemeyer patterns in her shop and at regional retreats. In addition to the classes, monthly Judy Niemeyer Stitch-ins were added to the schedule. Just prior to the shop’s closing, Karen hung a spectacular quilt show in the classroom showcasing customers’ award-winning masterpieces.
Since semi-retirement in May 2012, Karen has spent many hours working in her gardens, traveling and stitching Judy Niemeyer Designs. She is enjoying every moment. As a Certified Instructor for Judy, Karen returns to her early passions – traveling, teaching and quilting. Using quick piecing tips, Judy makes the difficult so simple. From the organization skills to the unit by unit construction to the final “WOW” when it all comes together, Karen’s goal is to share her love of quilting.
Her home is near North Canton, Ohio; but her family resides in Summerville, South Carolina; so Karen is ready to travel and teach near and far.
Sorry, there are no classes scheduled for Karen Conley at this time.
